The California State Legislature
Hall Of Shame

State Senator Liz Figueroa (D-Fremont) proposed legislation in 1999, to create a state-wide "Do-not-call" list in California. Listed below are the State Senators who voted against Ms. Figueroa's common sense bill. We provide this as a public service. C.A.T.S. believes that the voters have a right to know how their legislators vote regarding privacy and the right to be left alone.

Senator Maurice Johannessen (R) represents the Redding Area. His web page is at: http://WWW.sen.ca.gov/johannessen. On his website, he states: "I want to hear from you! Feel free to write, phone or email me." Unfortunately, the Senator's e-mail address does not appear on his web page or the Senator e-mail list at the Senate home page.

These fine folks voted against your right to be left alone by the newspapers, credit card companies, real estate agents, long distance companies, carpet cleaners, etc. It is interesting to note that all but one of the Senators who voted against the statewide "Do Not Call" list bill are Republicans. Let's remember them at election time, especially when they call us at home and ask for our vote!
