Hey, I'm from MO. I just started getting these calls today. I didn't answer the first time cause I didn't know it. Then I looked up the number and found this place. Thanks all you guys for the warning!! The just called back a lil bit ago and I told them not to call my number anymore. They were asking about my checking account too. That's messed up.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I just got a call from 727-471-1413 on my cell phone. I have hardly given out my cell number to anyone. Only a few people know what it is I had no idea who they were so I googled them and came across this site. I live in southern cali. So I don't know why they called

I have been getting these calls for a few days now and I'm in RI. The number calling here is 727-471-1411

They called 2 times today and I talked to someone. Right off I told them that I was on the "DoNOT Call list" and to NOT call me anymore. They just called again, a different person, and I said the same thing. This person was rude to me and said "So What". Now they keep on calling. I know it is them because the same number is coming up. They call, let it ring a few times, and then hang up. Then call back about 5 minutes later. (this has happend 4 times now).

Always good advice. Even if you are confident it isn't a scam, it's still a good idea to always use a credit card or not to do it at all. Credit cards give you a lot of protection.

Yea, I know, they hang up, scream in the phone, make loud noises, breath hard, make banging sounds,  I don't get it. These are crazy nuts.

I can't get anybody on their telephone numbers. I want to talk to the head Nutcase. The do not call list does not work for them. They will call anyway.

Everytime I call 727-471-1408, someone answers. A co-worker just called them to see if they were interested in timeshares, to test if the number works.

well i guess these guys are going to be around fo a long time and i am so glad that i decided to google their number and found this wonderful place. i recieved my first call from these wackos this morning. i am really bothered by the fact that these people knew a lot of my information to start off with, my middle int. my place of birth, my bank name, and the city and state my bank was in. the real BIG REd FLAG went up when she started asking for my routing #. I told her i didn't have that info, then she asked me if i had my account # memorized, i said no. then she wanted me to go find a bank statement for the number, i told her that i wouldn't be giving her any of my information to her. she said that she already had the routing number i just had to confirm it, i said no way!!!! She got a little irritated, said a few more things and hung up. Needless to say i have been in a sorry state ever since. Really wanna know where they get their information. Well anyway, i called the FCC and they said it wasn't sthem unless i was being sold something, and i was not, i was picked to recieve free gas vouchers cuz i was a good bank customer. so i called my state consumer protection agency, and the lady said that they are aware of it. I also called my bank and asked a few questions about how safe the account was even though this lady had so much info on me, and my bank said that without both numbers thre is nothing the scammers can do. Thanks for this message board all of you and hopefully i won't need to use any of your legal advise, but if i do i am glad it is here. oh by the way just for record, i was called by Distinctive Advantage:1-727-471-1416, can't remember the girls name but she had a spanish accent. if i would've known more about them at the time i would have paid more attention, and like i said before it was for free gas vouchers, no airline vouchers for me

[FONT=Times][SIZE=7][COLOR=purple]I got a couple calls yesterday but did not answer them. I received 3 calls today and I called back and told them that I was not interested. They called me back. Telling me that I would get 2 $100 gift certificates for any gas station I wanted. Then he wanted to verify my banking account name, my address and set a password. I did not feel comfortable with this so I told them I was not interested. I had to hang up. I didn't feel comfortable and called my bank. Of course, they knew nothing about it. Then I did the google search and found this board. I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and left a message for the State Attorney's office in Florida (which is not where I live). I found out that they tried to scam my grandmother who has no computer and no idea what is going on. Luckily my grandma doesn't take any crap and didn't give any information. Hopefully, I am safe from getting any money taken.
Rick--Poor person needs help
I just received a call from a female salesperson from the number of 727-471-1708. I was told the same thing that had been told to people here, such as obtaining $400 of airline coupon and gas voucher without any charge.

Because I am a international students, the English is not my native language, which is obviously taken advantage of by this female. She spoke so quickly that I could not follow her very well. But when she wanted to confirm my bank account number, I became skeptical. However, I was so stupid and told my account number after she repeated that this was totally free of charge and it's all up to me to decide whether to be a member after I receive the free packet. I also requested the company name and website. All I got was a company named Distinct Advantage and its website as well as a phone number of 1-800-853-9982.

After I finished this phone, my intuition told me this was not that easy and perfect. Then I searched the internet and found the reports in ripoff-report. I am so regretful and anxious now. I will call them soon to cancel my membership. How should I deal with problem? If I tell my bank to close my account, is that OK? But I am afraid these people have the recording of my voice as evidence if they can't get access to my account and take out money.

I really hope someone here could help me out this mess. I feel so helpless now. Thanks so much!!!!

FTC Halts "Wal-Mart Shopping Spree" Scam

March 1, 2006
The Federal Trade Commission has won a temporary restraining order against a group of defendants running what has become known as the "Wal-Mart Shopping Spree" scam.

The order prohibits the defendants from making misrepresentations to consumers and from engaging in deceptive or abusive telemarketing practices, freezes the defendants' assets, and appoints a temporary receiver over the corporate defendants.

This is the first time, since establishing the National Do Not Call Registry, that the Commission has sued to enforce consumers' do-not-call rights, without also alleging the telemarketer has violated the Registry.

Regardless of whether consumers have placed their telephone numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry, they have the right to tell specific companies not to call them again.

The FTC's complaint, filed in federal district court in Los Angeles, alleges that the defendants cold-call consumers falsely promising them valuable incentives such as gift cards, "shopping sprees," movie passes, and gas vouchers, purportedly worth $200 to $500, for a nominal shipping and handling fee, in order to induce the consumers to disclose their bank account information.

Once the defendants have this information, they engage in deceptive and abusive telemarketing practices to coerce consumers to pay additional charges for memberships in purported discount buying programs, according to the complaint.

In many cases, the FTC contends the defendants harass consumers by calling them repeatedly and threatening them until they relent and give purported authorization for the defendants to debit their accounts.

The defendants also allegedly do not allow consumers to cancel the charges until they complete a recorded authorization process. In many cases, consumers learn about these additional debits for the first time when they are notified by their banks that the withdrawals have been made.

The FTC contends that Defendants operated this scam through a series of corporate shells in order to prolong the life of their scam despite large numbers of consumer complaints and law enforcement inquiries.

The Charges
According to the Commission, the defendants' conduct violates the FTC Act by making material misrepresentations to consumers, including but not limited to misrepresenting that: consumers will receive the valuable incentive upon payment of a nominal shipping and handling charge, the defendants are affiliated with the government or major retailers, and consumers may easily obtain refunds and cancel their memberships in the defendants' programs.

The complaint also contends that the defendants violated the Telemarketing Sales Rule, by causing consumers' billing information to be submitted for payment without their express informed consent, and engaging in abusive telemarketing tactics to obtain "consent" from consumers, including threatening and harassing consumers and repeatedly calling consumers, even when they asked the defendants to stop calling by making a company-specific do-not-call request.

The complaint was filed against:

1) Universal Premium Services, Inc., also known as (aka) Premier Benefits, Inc., of Orange, California;
2) Consumer Reward Network, Inc., of Canoga Park, California;
3) Star Communications, LLC, of Los Angeles, California;
4) Membership Services Direct, Inc., aka Continuity Partners, Inc., of Las Vegas, Nevada;
5) Connect2USA, Inc., of Las Vegas, Nevada; and
6) Brian K. MacGregor; Harijinder Sidhu; Joseph F. Larosa, Jr.; Pranot Sangprasit; William Thomas Heichert; Michael Howard Cushing; Paul P. Tosi; and Manh D. Cao, individually.

well just for follow up people, i guess i must have made them mad by telling them no, cuz even after i called them and told them i didn't want to be called anymore, they called me lastnight again and asked for my husband, i told them no, they must not have any info on him cuz they didn't ask for him by name. there were maybe 2 or 3 people on the line and they were laughing and talking and just being weird. if they call me again they will regret it as i will not back down to them. I am sure there are a lot more government agencies i can report them too, over and above the ones i have already called. Wishing all of you a nice quiet call free day smile.gif

I am so sorry you fell for their scam, but please, close your account at your bank, NOW, before they steal your money, and they will. Do it right now. You don't owe them a dime, no matter what you told them. They are stealing from you.

Call and close your account now, and open up a new one, and don't ever give anyone your personal information again. Ever. Good Luck

I just wanted to let you know that i did call them and i spoke to a guy and told him i wanted to be placed on their do not call list. the same guy called me about 3 hrs later and was laughing and talking funny into the phone. so obviously he didn't care that i had called.
Anahera
I've only gotten two calls from these guys, one we weren't home to answer, the second, I played along till they asked me to "verify" my checking account number. I said Uh. no.
Told em I didn't have a check, no I dont have my account number memorized.
They hung up.

Something I used to do to telemarketers, the ones that were selling something... I'd act all excited about hearing from them, their product, or whatever, then tell 'em "ooH, Hold on!" put the phone down (DON'T hang up) and just continue about my business. Either eating dinner (they are good at calling at dinner time) or playing on my computer ... if I was at my computer, I'd put the phone down close enough to the keyboard so they could hear it clicking away. Talking to my kids, or whoever else was in the house, talking on my cell phone to others, just normal stuff. It's fun to see how long they will actually *WAIT* on the phone. I figure, the more time they spend waiting on MY phone, the fewer phone calls they will actually be able to make to others.

Next time they call (If they call)... i'm going to tell them to wait smile.gif

If we all just tell them to wait, there will be a lot of wasted minutes on their part LOL

QUOTE(Omnedon @ Oct 22 2005, 09:05 AM)
I'm afraid that at some point you become someone who was fun to play with.  What is probably happening is that they keep calling you back because you are fun to talk to, from their point of view.

If you want them to stop calling, ask them to take you off of their list.  At this point that may not work because they are having fun with you and they may just start calling you from pay phones, etc.

The best thing to do is when they call you in the first place, just ask them to take you off their list.  Don't get excited or angry, it's pointless.  To them it's just a job unless you do something that makes you stand out as someone who is fun to call.

If they keep calling, don't get angry or creative, just act bored and ask them to take you off their list and let them know, calmly, that you aren't interested.  They will get bored and stop when you aren't fun to call anymore.

You can also sue them if they call back again, but odds are they won't after you stop being fun to call.

Your situation is different than most people.  In your case, they aren't trying to sell you anything anymore, they are just messing with you.

Oh i have done everything, whether they have my account info or not, they are not getting anywhere with me as I have notified every agency that i can about these wackos, FTC, FCC, Consumer Protection Agency, BBB, and a detective friend of mine. My bank is als aware of the whole situation, and for some reason i have had no problems with my bank at all about this whole thing, they have been more than helpful. I guess it's just a waiting game now to see if these crooks are shut down. the only thing i don't quite understand is why the complaints in the BBB are all seperate for each company name, i mean it is all the same company but tehy have more complaints for some of their business names and not as many for others. well good luck all! smile.gif

I live in RI. I received a MANY hangups from these people. After, I called back and had my number removed. We'll see how much good that does.

I tried to file a complaint with donotcall.gov, but after completing the first page of questions, it redirects me to:

https://www.donotcall.gov/Complain/ComplainCheck.aspx

And the page has no content, just blank (aside from the logo and menu). I tried using Mozilla v1.7 and Konqueror 3.4.2. I cannot use Internet Explorer because I do not have M$ Windows, I am running GNU/Linux operating system.

On a side note, I think it would be great to print this entire thread out and mail it almost with your complaints. A letter stateing "I have seen hundreds of complaints" is good, but 500 pages behind that inital letter is GREAT.

Mine will be sent out tomorrow. Attorney General, largo Florida Local PD, BBB of FL and my local Attorney general.

You may want to call the FCC back as they were calling to sell you something, the vouchers are whats called a "premium" to get you to accept the membership offer.

If they really were calling to give you free vouchers, this wouldn't be a problem. The problem is they were hoping to debit your account for a membership program.

COME ON PEOPLE, READ THE THREAD BEFORE YOU POST TO IT.

IF THEY CALL YOU, THEN GIVE THEM YOUR DO-NOT-CALL REQUEST.

IF YOU GAVE THEM YOUR ACCOUNT NUMBER, THEN CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT.

IF THEY CALL YOU IN VIOLATION OF THE TCPA, THEN SUE THEM.

ALL THE INFORMATION YOU NEED HAS ALREADY BEEN POSTED IN THIS THREAD.

Live calls from: 727-471-1400, 727-471-1401, 727-471-1402, 727-471-1403, 727-471-1404, 727-471-1405, 727-471-1406, 727-471-1407, 727-471-1408, 727-471-1409, 727-471-1410, 727-471-1410, 727-471-1411, 727-471-1412, 727-471-1413, 727-471-1414, 727-471-1415, 727-471-1416, 727-471-1417, 727-471-1418. Call-back numbers: 877-247-0786, 800-853-9982, 800-432-6350, 866-545-5486, 888-612-2894. Names given: Agents Travel Network, Distinct Advantage, Freedom Gold, Capital Vacations, Florida Passport.

Calls from the above numbers are made by FTN Promotions Inc. They are located at 8751 Ulmerton Road, Largo, FL 33771. They are also known as Suntasia.

If you think they called you in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), then you can sue them for up to $1,500 per call.

As of February 28th, Agents Travel Network is called Travel Agents Direct and most of the phone numbers have changed. They still have the main customer service number as 1-800-853-9982 and the office number is still 727-471-0276.

They are located at 8751 Ulmerton Road, Largo, FL 33771 NOT the address they give you over the phone. The one they give is to the travel agency that supposedly takes care of the free vacation which is another lie. It isn't free at all. The $400 in airline vouchers they offer only cover a small fraction of what the ticket costs. You have to fork over everything else yourself.

Also, the Florida Passport the $149 hotel accomodations to Orlando & Fort Lauderdale (time share program) is now called "Floridaway". The calling card "Teleflex" was changed to "PRISM Communications". It sounds like "prison" when you're selling it over the phone.

These changes were made because like in the past, many people caught on and started complaining. The manager even admitted in a meeting that the change had to be made because every year or so "things" have to look different in order to keep going.

Sorry to say, as a former employee I knew the product was foul after a while. I found out that the discount travel card they send you has to be returned to them otherwise you'll get charged. As for the calling card (Teleflex, Prism etc), if the customer doesn't want it, they have to write a letter which states to deactivate the card otherwise they'll be charged $49.95 anyway. Sadly many were charged before they got the package whether it was the travel, phone card or the hotel accomodations.

The company that owns all these different names including "Capital Vacations" is called, "Suntasia Marketing".

Their website is http://www.suntasia.com. There, you'll find ALL the REAL corporate officers and their agenda. Make NO mistake about it, this company is ONLY geared towards making money and NOT into promoting a satisfying product.

Sad to say they made $20 million dollars (2004/2005 fiscal year) off of the backs of innocent people. I saw the numbers myself in one of their brochure reports. How long can they go before someone FINALLY puts an end to this charade.

BEWARE OF SCAM-TASIA ! !

Thanks,

Joe

Just adding my $.02 here. After reading this thread I decided to pick up the phone the next time I saw one of the family of numbers from this company on the caller ID.

I had a nice conversation with a person who told me his name was Mike Jennings and that the company is (now?) Travel Agents Direct and their website is travelagentsgodirect.com.

He was actually pretty upfront about things (e.g. the vouchers are an inducement to sign up for their "special program") and seemed like a decent guy (except for the hard sell). When I told him that I had read about his company on some scam message boards he didn't exactly respond directly but did say that sometimes people "think it's a scam" but that it's really not laugh.gif .

He explained that debiting money directly from the customer's bank account is actually safer than using a credit card because he could just take my credit card number and go buy stuff, whereas with my bank info he can't do that, which strikes me as... misleading.

In any case, I just wanted to add my experience here, since the name & website weren't what I had been expecting them to be.

Best of luck everyone.

Yeah it may be the safest way but they still debit your account whenver they want. It's the same thing I said when I was there. I am not saying that Mike isn't a decent guy but even he knows the compnaies practices are questionable at best. Think about it. If this compnay was such on the up and up then why are so many people complaining about them. I could understand if it was 5 or 10 but when you have a back log like they do, it becomes evident something is severely wrong.

Scam:  They offer you a free vacation, but they need to confirm your checking account number bank routing number (these are the numbers on the bottom of your checks).  Then they make unauthorized fraudulent debits from your checking account.

If anyone has any information on the REAL name of the company (registered with the state), and a REAL address, please post what you know...

Hello everyone, and lets all thank google for bringing us to this site....I love google.  Anyway, I keep getting these calls as well, but when I pick up no one answers.  So I got angry and called back...no answer....So I took my phone, made it look like a restricted number and hid my number from them and called them back, I also love blackberrys...hehe!  I got an answer finally and asked to be taken off their list.  They said ok and hung up....then I remembered my number was restricted.....bah!  So it seems that reporting is doing little for this, so I suggest something new.  Any suggestions?  My first idea is to write a computer program to call everyone of these numbers every few seconds.  But this too is harrassment.  So, lets make a huge list of everytime this place calls us.  Everyone please keep track of his/her own recieved calls.  I will make a website for this later....So, what does everyone think, a good start?  BTW, my first post!

All I can say is they called me from the 727-471-1414 number, and I didn't give them any info. They called looking for me later, and got my husband on the phone, he told them to put us on the do not call list and hung up. I just looked up the number through google tonight and found all of you here. I am so sorry for those that fell into the trap but am thankful for all the stories and information you shared. We are in NC, and this was the first I ever heard of this. Luckily, I never give any personal info out.
Thank you all once again....be safe!
Peace!!!

They can't do anything with your bank name unless they have your routing number and account number to. When they call just tell them to take you off their list and make sure they read you the Disclaimer. If they don't, it is a major fine. Then followit up by writing to the company to CEASE and DESIST with attempts to contact you with any of their promotions.

Just look on this forum. The address of the company are on here. The website is www.suntasia.com.

Fran
Well, I didn't give them my bank information but I am assuming that they have it anyway considering everyone else on this site says that they already had it. I called my bank and they told me to keep and eye on my account and if they take money I will get it back and that after they take money I can stop them from ever taking it again.

Don't worry about it. Now that you didn't give them your account info, they can do nothing with your bank routing number and they can't have your account info as long as you keep it from them. But keeping an eye on your account for a while is a discreet action worthy of being done.
