Yes, call to cancel. What a concept! Except that in the recording it's a different story than the initial contact where the agents have mis-represented themselves totally.

With Freecreditreport.com everything is done on the internet the same day. You KNOW when your 10 day free trial is up b/c the day you sign up that is when it starts and you already KNOW TODAY'S date. It's not hard to count the days from the day you started with them but with Suntasia there is no SPECIFIC date when the free trial begins or when you will be receiving the packages and that is where the confusion starts.

On the recording it says:

"After your two week trial period the program is just $19.95 a month billed to the checking account you just supplied to us. If you decide to cancel your membership, just call the 800 number in your package. There's no further obligation and . . . . . . . ."

HHmmmmmmmmmm. . . . Let's see what's wrong with this picture?

Well for starters the word "free" is not found after the word "your" and before "two" even though the agents stress it's a "free" trial before the recording began.

Also , there is no SPECIFIC date when your "trial" (NOT "free" trial) period starts and ends. All the agents tell the customer is that when you recieve the package in the next 7 to 10 business days, your "trial" period will begin two weeks from then. Unfortunately, Suntasia REALLY doesn't know when the package will arrive to them (if they sometimes ship it out at all) and thus the billing can start at any time. It has happened over and over again where customers have complained about being charged, not receiving their packages or they got it very late. Many have been charged even before the package was sent out to them or on the day of recieving it. What is Suntasia's response to these complaints? It's the U.S. Postal Services fault. Yeah pass the buck will you! Some have been able to get refunds but that's after struggling to get through customer service and it's 3 different phone numbers that ALL lead to the same place, Suntasia Marketing.

Another thing that stands out in the recording is the part after "If you decide to cancel just call the 800 number in your package.
There's no further obligation and the airline vouchers and hotel vouchers are yours to keep just for accepting the membership for the first two weeks".

Really? Well what they leave out is that if you DON'T send the travel card back to them you WILL automatically be billed through your checking account even if you called to cancel.

As for the other two packages, well, FloridaWay (A.K.A Florida Passport) it says in the recording:

The "Florida Fun in the Sun Dream Escape".

"You will receive 6 days and 5 nights of hotel accomodations in Orlando & Fort Lauderdale, Florida. You will receive this on a 7 day FREE REVIEW basis. This "Fam" trip is subject to black out dates of Christmas, New Years & Special Events. . . . . . . . . . . . . "

Yeah, what the agent doesn't say is that this is a "TIMESHARE" program which they know many people don't like to hear. Also you notice it is in two different places, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. This means the accomodations are split in two and must be used in the same week. Oh and don't even think about using it on the weekends. This is one of the restrictions.

The final part of it says:

"If after reviewing your vacation materials you do not want to take advantage of the package, simply call the toll free number provided in your package during your 7 day review. . . . . . ."

Once again when does the free review end? No one knows b/c there is no specific date to determine that. Like all the other packages, it is sent out regular mail. So if it get's there late or never does, be prepared to be billed $149.00.

Now as for the "free" long distance calling card. True you can use it free for 21 days but that's if you get the card on time which just like the other two packages alot of times does not. Also, most of us have cell phones so why would you pay $49.95 a month for a long distance calling card when you get it FREE with your cell phone provider.

Finally, the middle part of this recording goes like this:

"If after your free trial you decide to continue it's only $49.95 a month billed to the checking account used today and monthly thereafter, but keep in mind you are under no obligation to continue. If you feel it's not for you simply call the customer service number within the free trial period and you will never be billed. . . it's that simple, . . . . . "

Wow! The word "FREE" is everywhere here. Now let's look at it close up shall we? The phrase, "but keep in mind you are under no obligation to continue. . . . "

Uuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh?? YES you are if you don't send a letter in writing to them that you want to de-activate the card otherwise guess what? That's right you'll be billed $49.95 a month to your checking account.

Oh and of course they also don't tell you that the customer service number used to cancel is NOT the same for the other two packages you agreed to take thus 3 different #'s to call even though they ALL lead back to the same place Suntasia Marketing CS department.

By the way in case you were wondering, the three packages DO NOT all arrive to your home at the same time. Sometimes they arrive days of each other. There are very few agents that can sell these packages without stretching the truth but sadly many do. This is why the Florida State Attorney General's office NOT only in Florida but in states like Washington are checking out these complaints. If you haven't seen the news report on Channel 4 that was done on Suntasia a month ago, then I suggest you click on the link below. It's worth a look.

If people want to defend this company that is their right but if they are going to be in denial about the problems Suntasia has created for themselves then they can't get annoyed when people complain.

When I told you someone would get ticked off enough to do something about this company I wasn't kidding. Kalvin B sued Suntasia Marketing in small claims court in Arizona for calling his phone number and violating the DNC rule. The result was that he won a few hundred dollars but that's not here or there. The fact is that these crooks went too far and thus have to pay. He tells you how to do it in his NEW website called, "Suntasia Sucks". lol Pretty accurate if I say so myself. Plenty of good information in there to view and worth taking a look at.

Here is the link to the new site.

New "Suntasia Sucks" Site!

There is a forum in there if you want to post your horrible experiences with this company. "Suntasia Sucks" offers ALL the important information you need to know about this company and what you need to do if you feel you're being harrassed. It is very well done. The site will also serve as a tool for posting information on other fraudulent companies as well. You did a GREAT job putting it together Kalvin B and I appreciate ALL of your efforts in doing so.

*Telemarketers Using Costco's Name to Entice You To Buy*

When a telemarketer calls you up and mentions Costco, that gets your attention. But in this case, Costco says "watch out".

This tip comes from Rachel Randall of Shelton who says she got a call from a Suntasia Marketing. The caller told her she's get $100 in free gas and $400 in airfare if she would try out some products from Costco.

Rachel says what really freaked her out is the caller already had her bank account information - both her account number and the routing number of her bank.

Coscto Vice President of Membership Paul Latham wants you to know that Costco is not not involved in any telemarketing promotion.

"We aren't doing any kind of promotion with a telemarketer," Latham said. "We do not allow our membership base to go to anyone."

Suntasia Marketing's web site says it's a full service marketing company. But telemarketing seems to be the primary focus. Suntasia Marketing is actually part of another company called FTN Promotions, based in Saint Petersburg Florida.

FTN stands for Florida Travel Network and according the Better Business Bureau, Florida Travel Network operates under more than half a dozen names, including, Suntasia Marketing, Florida Travel Network, Confirmation Center, Sea Escape, Platinum Plus Travel, Classic Enterprise and Majestic Promotions.

It's travel promoter, but that's about all I could get when I called Suntasia to find out how they got Rachel's account information.

The customer service rep told me Rachel must have done business with one of Suntasia's affiliates.

A young woman who identified herself as "Miss Reed" told me the company offers different promotions and calls customers who've done business with their affiliates. She declined to say who those affiliates area.

Rachel says she was told the company buys or shares lists with other companies but no one would tell her the names of the companies that might have shared her information.

I tried to get a supervisor or owner, but was told there was no one else I could talk to.

From talking with the Florida State Attorney General however, it would appear Rachel is not alone in her concerns.

FTN Promotions, Inc. is the subject of an active investigation by Florida State, based on dozens of complaints about unfair and deceptive practices and unauthorized debiting of consumer bank and credit accounts.

Further background investigation turned up government action in multiple states dating back to 1997, including settlements in 2000 with the states of Florida, Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Washington,DC, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

The settlements involved misleading and deceptive practices in the sale of vacation packages. At that time, Florida Travel Network agreed to modify its marketing but did not admit any wrongdoing.

I made several attempts to call both Suntasia and FTN Promotions, but either got no answer or the lines were disconnected.

If you get an unsolicited call from Suntasia or any company you've never dealt with who already has your account numbers or other private information, get as much information from the caller as you can and report it to the Washington State Attorney General's office.

Then, notify your bank and let them know your account has been compromised.
