Interesting to note they have created yet another LLC known as "Co-Compliance". Whatever that means. It even has an email address, legal@co-compliance.com. Authorities Shut Down Telemarketing Firm in Possible Scam

LARGO, Fla. (AP) -- A telemarketing firm accused of using murky promises of discounts and free vacations to trick thousands of consumers across the nation out of millions of dollars was temporarily shut down Wednesday, federal officials said.

The Federal Trade Commission took action against Strategia Marketing Inc., also known as Suntasia Marketing, following a federal judge's temporary civil injunction. The judge also froze the assets of the company and its executives and allowed federal regulators to inspect and copy the company's business records.

According to federal civil court records, more than 5,000 people complained to authorities that the telemarketing firm, operating under at least 15 business names, used deceptive and confusing sales tactics to get consumers to reveal their bank account information. The telemarketers then enrolled the consumers in programs that automatically deducted hundreds of dollars a month from their bank accounts and were almost impossible to cancel.

"I have been doing consumer fraud cases for the Federal Trade Commission for 25 years and I believe this may well be the biggest telemarketing fraud I've ever seen," said C. Steven Baker, director of the FTC's Midwest Region, the lead agency in the investigation. "We don't have firm figures yet. But we believe tens of thousands of consumers across the U.S. ... have lost at least tens of millions of dollars. It may well be in excess of $100 million."

Strategia employs more than 700 people -- including about 500 telemarketers -- in the company's two-story 47,000-square-foot facility in Largo, according to the FTC's injunction request.

Baker said that a 55-foot yacht named "Suntasia" is among the assets frozen while state and federal agencies investigate the company.

A federal civil court hearing on the injunction is tentatively set for Aug. 1.

Company executives did not immediately return phones messages. A recording at Strategia's headquarters said the company was "temporarily closed" and would not accept messages.

The injunction names FTN Promotions Inc., Guardian Marketing Services Corp., Strategia Marking LLC, Co-Compliance LLC, Bay Pines Travel, Inc. and several other companies and individuals. Baker said it took several months to sort through the tangle of corporations.

Gayla Scott, 30, of Fort Myers, said firms affiliated with Strategia drained almost $300 from her bank account last fall after she agreed to review some information about a free four-day vacation to Orlando.

"They called on my work cell phone so I thought it was legitimate," Scott said.

Scott said the caller seemed to have her personal checking account information, but actually only had the bank routing number which is public information. She gave them her account number, thinking she was confirming information, and thought she had 10 days to consider the offer.

But the package didn't arrive until 10 days after the call and by the time she was able to act the company was already charging her account with "negative option" programs. Negative option plans take a consumer's silence or inaction as permission to bill them.

Scott said she tried unsuccessfully to get her money back. She did some research and found pages of complaints about Strategia and Suntasia on the Internet. She filed a complaint with the local Better Business Bureau and the company refunded her money.

"I was working off adrenaline," she said. "I knew I was going to get something back if I had to drive there and knock on the door."
