Anyone have any information on calls from “OUT OF AREA, 888-547-4762” that deliver the following prerecorded telephone solicitation:
“Hi, this is Scott Grant with Century Financial Group. I was calling in reference to your mortgage application that you placed. I would like to get you on our 30-year, one point nine five percent mortgage program. Please press 9 to be connected with me. If not, um, you can go ahead and push 8 if you’re not interested in a 30-year, one point nine five percent program. Thank you.”

I got a call from “OUT OF AREA, 888-547-4762” that delivered the following prerecorded telephone solicitation:
“...I’m following you up on your mortgage application. We want to get you pre-approved on our 30-year, one point nine five percent mortgage program. So please call me so we can get this loan in the process, and get this loan funded as soon as possible. Once again this is Scott Grant at Century Financial Group at 866-828-9875. Thanks a lot. Have a great day. Bye bye.”

I've been receiving the first message posted here every morning between 8:30 and 9am. The 888 number results in silence, but the 866 number eventually gets you through to live people who say they will remove your number from their calling list. Now, let's see if they do.
Thanks for the information.

Do you have the Caller ID for the calls with the prerecorded message? If not, can you get it next time by typing *57 after the call ends. Did you ever press 8 after getting the prerecorded message and see who you are connected with? If not, can you press 8 the next time and try to "shmooze" nicely with them in an effort to figure out who they are.
Thanks

I got the same call, from the same number 888 547 4762. The calls are in the morning and in the evening non stop everyday. I tried calling the number back and I got no answer, then a phone off the hook sound after 30 seconds of waiting for even a ring tone. Looks fishy to me.

The company is located in Corona California. Here is their address and phone number:
Century Finanical Group
750 South Lincoln Ave.
Corona California, 92882
Phone number: 866-828-9875
I called and had them remove from the calling list. In my case, the number they have been calling is a support line at an industrial company (I'm the tech support person). They said the number was given to them by someone calling them and requesting a return call, which is bullsh*t. It's a direct line that incoming support calls get transfered to and nobody knows it directly. If they continue to call my number, I'm going to have to take it up a notch.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for this information.
The so-called "Century Financial Group" has been calling our 1-800 number for days and obviously my attempt to contact them at the 1-888 which shows up on the caller ID was futile.
Upon speaking with them, they said that they were given our number by someone requesting information and that is why they were calling us. I find that very hard to believe as what business uses an automated, blanket statement message to return live inqueries? Also, who gives their 1-800 number as a call back line? I know I personally try to keep the traffic on that line to a minimum.
I told them that I finally found their information on this site and that others had stated (as mentioned by Ralph) that they use the excuse that they were contacted first. To their small credit, they were polite and said they would remove me from their calling list. I'd sure love to see just how many 1-800 numbers are on that list and out of those how many are valid inqueries.
Thanks again! Folks like you are my heroes!

These folks called me this week and the week prior, both times leaving a message on my answering machine. The first time I could not prove that it was a pre-recorded solicitation -- but the second time I compared the two recordings side-by-side in an audio editor tool on computer, and they are exactly the same recording. (And using pre-recorded solicitations to a phone number in washington is illegal, at least $500 per incident....)
So now that I have two, and have a record that they were prerecorded, I called their specified number to find their address. (First I asked for a website, but they said it wasn't working yet.)
They told me:
750 South Lincoln Ave
#104-174
Corona, CA 92882
I looked on
http://www.labbb.org/BBBWeb/Forms/General/Home.aspxand see that that exact address is listed as belonging to "Corona Specialized Medical Billing" -- a business name which I could not find on google... Something's strange.
Calling the phone number for listed on the BBB page for Corona Spec.Med.Bill. just gives a vanilla "Please leave a message beep" -- which doesn't seem normal for a legit company.
I may send them a postcard asking if they do 30 year loans -- and if so, then send the notice there that they shouldn't have been calling washington state numbers. I just don't know whether they gave me their address or some innocent address.
Thanks!

Whitepages.com reverse looup for 949-706-2730 gives:
F1 Financial
3 San Joaquin Plz
Newport Beach, CA 92660-5923
(949) 706-2730
Both in Newport Beach -- and both at address 3. What's the difference between
Civic Plaza and San Joaquin?
Maybe I should send my "Do not use commercial prerecorded solicitations in Washington State" reminder to both addresses. Or can I just get a small claims judge to order that the phone company provide the correct address for the phone number that called?

Hello. I am in Pennsylvania and I have been harrassed with the same lying speel: I have not placed a mortgage application with anybody. What percent of the people with telephones have a mortagee application pending? How would a mortgage company learn of such a fact? Would they have access to a credit history file that produced such a list? The fact that people on this forum feel that the caller is lying means that in all liklihood Century Financial Group does not have access to credit history info. Has anyone seen any mortgage documents filed by this company? Are they on file in any county courthouse? The FTC obtained an injuction against this company in 2000, based on activity that began in 1999. The injunction expired in 2003. Looks like it is time to apprise the FTC once again. Does anyone know if any member of the public has incurred damages due to this sales pitch? T M P

So they called us back today and left the same message on our 1-800 line. Upon calling them they claimed that they do not call 1-800 numbers. I told them that it's a specific line that has a specific ring and that the did, indeed, call that. The female argued that it wasn't possible but took both my direct line and the 1-800 line again to make sure.
I'm very interested to see what some of you come up with in regards to legal steps that can be taken.

I also live in Pennsylvania and have been bothered by their annoying calls. They called yesterday and today in the evening at the same time. When you press 9 to talk to a representative you just get a busy signal. Also my family didnt sign up for a mortgage so I don't know what they are talking about. I just wish they would stop calling and bothering people.

When I called the number they provided I would get "you have reached us after hours" and it would hang up. I called the toll free number I believe "Ralph" provided. They agreed to take me off the list. Let's hope it works!

Well, they called me yet again on the 1-800 number after I have asked them twice to remove me from their list. I am personally going to find out who I have to contact to report their actions.

We moved to Washington from Maine in the last 8 months. I was unaware that prerecorded marketing calls where against the law in the State. We get approx. 4 to 5 different calls a week, but this call from Scott takes the cake. We went out of town for 7 days when we got back 6 out of the 13 messages on our machine were from "Scott at Grant Century Financial Group."
If these types of calls are illegal is there some way to report them? I contacted my phone company I was told that I could pay $6.50 per month to be put on a no solicitation program. I thought that was silly to pay extra to have my rights enforced. The operator I spoke with did empathize with my plight and referred me to www.donotcall.gov he said that he did this for his personal # and it has worked quiet well. I was also told that I could call the police... I'm not sure who I should contact if I find a direct line I'll post it.
Another thing that comes to mind... Is it possible that pressing 8 or 9 costs the recipient of the call any money?
Thank You all for the thread. Better to have a fourm for this than to be alone.

Dave,
I'm from CT too. I keep getting calls from Scott from this financial group-i asked them TWICE within the last week to take me off. They said 'yes' and i slammed the phone down.
Low and behold, ol' Scotty called today again. I'm SOO glad others are getting this call from this assh*le too. Thought it was just me.
Thanx for providing their address. I'd HATE to waste $0.39 stamp on the f*ckers, but if it means they'll leave me the hell alone, then i'm more than willing.
Cheers,

We don't get a lot of these calls especially on this phone line, but this Scott character calls me more than my own mother. Here is some info from the FCC web site that you all might find useful:
The FCC and the Federal Trade Commission have established a National Do-Not-Call Registry. The registry is nationwide in scope, applies to all telemarketers (with the exception of certain non-profit organizations), and covers both interstate (from one state to another) and intrastate (within state) telemarketing calls. Commercial telemarketers are not allowed to call you if your number is on the registry subject to certain exceptions. As a result, consumers can, if they choose, reduce the number of unwanted phone calls to their homes.
Subscribers may register their residential telephone numbers, including wireless numbers, on the National Do-Not-Call Registry by telephone or by Internet and at no cost. To add your telephone number to the National Do-Not-Call Registry via the Internet, go to www.donotcall.gov. To register by phone, call 1-888-382-1222; for TTY call 1-866-290-4236. You must call from the phone number you wish to register. For more information on the National Do-Not-Call Registry see our web page at
http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/donotcall/.

DON'T EVEN FALL FOR THIS CRAP!! I got 9 hang ups the other day and 1 from 'Scott Grant'.
GO TO WWW.DONOTCALL.GOV to enter your phone# to get taken off the do-not-call list. It takes 30 days to be effective, but it's worth it when it means these annoying d***heads won't call at ridiculous hours. I called them THREE times to get my name taken off the list...and they said "yes, in 2-days." Bulls*it!! So take action soon!

I got this same recorded cold-calling recording at my residence in MAINE, so you can see they are targetting all across the country. The recorded number for call back was 866 828-9875. When I called it today and asked to have my number removed from their calling list, a polite operator took my number. We'll see if it works or not. Anybody got info on placing a Class Action suit against Century Financial? Our invation of privacy at some point must constitute harassment, and that must be worth something.
