This is my first post. Thanks for letting me join the forum.

I had a Primerica (MLM insurance, mortgage, etc) executive call to find out if I was interested in working for the company. When I attended the "interview" they tried to sell me their services and wanted to charge $199 for training. I'm not saying Primerica is good, bad, a scam, etc. If you google for them you will find millions of comments about the company, both positive and negative.

I'm wondering if this sounds like telemarketing. Here is the definition: "Telephone solicitation" means any voice communication over the phone for the purpose of encouraging the purchase or rental of, or investment in, property, goods, or services.

From my perspective they:
1. Asked me to invest $199 in their services to become an independent contractor for them.
2. Tried to sell their products three times during the presentation.

It's important to mention the caller did not mention any cost on the phone, only in person when I attended the interview. It seems just like a time-share sales person calling to tell me I won a free weekend stay and when I arrived they tried to sell me a time-share. Both appear to meet the definition of "for the purpose of encouraging..."

Has anyone gone up against Primerica? Any advice/opinions?

Thanks in advance.
