here is our story.

This was almost identicle to the following forum thread that I found at stopjunkcalls.com

http://www.stopjunkcalls.com/bboard/index.php?showtopic=45

A man going by the name Jimmy Torqulis called our switchboard and asked to speak with someone in the "shop"
our operator asked him which department, He responded with "the Finishing department" (All shops have one right smile.gif )

so he was patched through to a shop floor worker, and used social engineering to fool the worker into giving him the Make and Model of the Printer that was "near him" and also asked for his supervisors name. He also got some of our dept names and in house naming conventions for that area.

Jimmy calls back a few minutes later and asks the operator to transfer him to the supervisor of the finishing dept.
Jimmy used the "in house names" to make it sound like he was familiar with our shop and convinced the supervisor to buy toner.
Doug Thomas our supervisor came to me right after and asked me about it. I knew right away what happened.

from the information I learned on this web site, I knew that someone would be calling back to finalize the deal. so I instructed our switchboard operator to transfer any calls for "Doug Thomas" or about "toner" to me.

the next day a lady who introduced her self as "Laurie Taylor with CSI Inc in Missouri" called and asked for Doug.

I took that call...

She asked me if I remembered the conversation with "Jimmy" the day before, and I answered yes. she then went on to confirm my order of toner at $298.00 per toner (10x the real price)

after it started sounding like I was actually placing an order, I stopped her let her know who I really was and that I was recording the phone call so I could turn it over to the state DA and the FTC.

she just laughed and said "that’s fine, I will just call back again later" I let her know that she wont be calling us again, and she said ok, I will just call the next guy"

NICE!

Thank you for allowing me to post this information on the web, I hope others who recieve calls from this company and try to "google" these names and numbers will find it.

I did try to use some social engineering on CSI inc, but they are pretty good at not giving out any information, I personally dont think they are even located in Missouri or use real names.

some names have been changed to protect the inocent (NOT CSI's staff)
